Nurturing Child Development Through Play

Empowering Every Child’s Unique Developmental Journey

At Rough Common Pre-School we offer a homely atmosphere alongside a safe and nurturing environment in which to learn.

Welcome to Rough Common Pre-School. Located in the village of Rough Common, Canterbury we are a privately run Pre-School and Nursery offering places to children aged from 6 months to 5 years. We are open 38 weeks of the year from 8am until 4.30pm.

We offer a welcoming home from home atmosphere, where the children can play and learn in a safe and nurturing environment.

Our children are at the centre of everything that we do; we value them all as unique individuals. We believe that children learn best when they are stimulated and able to follow their own interests, making choices for themselves about their learning journey.

This is best achieved through play-based experiences, where the children are given the opportunity to explore their own interests, enquire, question, plan and take risks which in turn leads to high levels of wellbeing and involvement.

RATED GOOD

KEY FINDINGS FOR PARENTS

  1. Staff plan an ambitious, sequenced curriculum that helps children to make strong progress in their learning and development.
  2. The staff have established excellent partnerships with parents. Staff make focused use of handover times to exchange information with parents about their children’s day.
  3. The staff have an in-depth knowledge of children’s interests and stage of development. They use this information to plan high-quality learning experiences for all children, including those with SEND and those with English as an additional language.
  4. Children and babies form close bonds with the nurturing and attentive staff. The children feel safe and confidently explore the extensive range of activities staff have provided for them.

An inclusive setting where all children are included regardless of race, religion, gender or educational needs.

A consistent key person approach where children are encouraged to form strong relationships with adults and children.
